Sam French Bio
Growing up in suburban Philadelphia, Sam assumed that one day he would realize his dream and become an astronaut, flying the first mission to Mars. He devoured Science Fiction novels, astounding his peers with his knowledge of alien civilizations and the technological marvels we would one day find commonplace. As he grew, however, and his eyes began to see the wealth of experience this world offers, his interests broadened and he began to revel more in the ancient power of storytelling than the future destinations these stories promised.
After graduating from Williams College, and wondering where the flying cars were that he was promised as a child, Sam embarked on his own exploration into this myth-making of the modern age, moving to New York to work in development, production, and postproduction, as a writer, editor, cinematographer, producer, and director. In addition to his freelance projects, he has produced promos for TV Land, worked in development at the Sci-Fi Channel, and produced and directed a documentary about Spring Break in Panama City Beach, Florida.
Sam believes that film-makers have an inherent responsibility to reveal the range of human experience, and as such has embarked on extensive journeys to far reaches of the world.. He believes that film gains its power to entertain and influence by questioning our comfortable visions of life, and as such, he feels it essential to interact and learn from people with different viewpoints and ways of seeing this small planet we all call home.
Now living in Los Angeles, Sam has recently completed an MFA from the School of Cinema and Television at USC. His most recent projects include a series of commercials for the Malaysian cell phone company Celcom, and a music video for Asian superstar Leehom Wang that topped the charts for MTV Asia. He is currently working on his first feature film script.
